At a meeting of Newport Council’s Scrutiny Committee on October 29th, the shortlist of gypsy sites was approved and this has subsequently also been approved by Cabinet. The residential sites recommended are the former Road Safety Centre and land at Hartridge Farm Road and the former Ringland Allotments, with Brickyard Lane as a contingency site. The transit site recommended is the yard adjacent to the A449 at Langstone, with Celtic Way as a contingency site, if the A449 site cannot go ahead. These recommendations will now be presented to the Welsh Assembly Government for approval as newly nominated sites in the LDP to replace the original sites proposed.
Thank you to everyone who responded regarding the sites in Marshfield and Castleton. 532 individual responses were received relating to the Castleton site, raising 3,551 issues in total. 265 individual responses were received relating to the Celtic Way site, raising 1,174 issues. It just shows what can be achieved when a community pulls together!
